Short film on Friendship Park’s origins part of virtual film festival
The short film, “Too Long Here,” directed by Emily Packer, shows archival footage from the day that then First Lady Pat Nixon flew to the mesa above the beach where strands of barbed wire fencing separated San Diego from Tijuana. She officially turned the land over to the state of California.
“I hope there won’t be a fence too long here,” Nixon said to the crowd.
